University of Granada

Almost five centuries of change have created the modern University of Granada. It was founded in 1531 at the behest of Emperor Charles V.
Approximately 80.000 individuals – students, lecturers and administrative/services personnel- are directly linked with the institution. This university population in a city such as Granada, with its 240,000 inhabitants, has converted the regional capital into a lively and unique community, filled with vivacious and hard-working young people.
Through its quality research programme, the University of Granada is actively investing in the future. The emphasis is on traditional lines of research, which have given the university its international prestige. At the same time it pursues new and evolving forms of research that are of value in a changing society and enable collaboration with other institutions and businesses in the area.
The international Projects Office facilitates the coordination of those international projects involving researcher s from the University of Granada.
As one of the founder members of the prestigious Coimbra Group, the UGR has a proactive international outlook and is defined by its openness to the world. Among other organizations, it is affiliated to the European Association of Universities and the Council of Latin American Universities.
The UGR actively participates actively in EU international programs, both in mobility of the university community and in research. The internationalization of the university is shaped by the educational programmes Erasmus Mundus and International Qualifications, and its programmes with other EU countries, Magreb countries, Latin America and Eastern Europe, are and established tradition. Also, through bilateral agreements and collaboration networks with other groups of universities, the UGR cooperates with universities in the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Israel, Australia and many Asiatic nations from the former Soviet Union.
